Class Descriptions

INTRO TO IMPACT
Length: 3 hours
Fee: $79 pre-paid, $89 at the door; pre-registration required 
Open to
: Women, men, and teens age 13-17 with parental permission and/or chaperone.
This workshop introduces participants to the basics of self-defense. Students learn basic verbal and physical strategies for dealing with standing confrontations. Class size is limited and students have opportunities to practice use of physical and verbal skills in drills and simulated attack scenarios with a male instructor in padded gear.

Children’s Self Defense Workshop
Length: 2 Hours
Fee: $49 pre-paid one week in advanced, $59 afterwards; pre-registration and parent/guardian attendance required

: All children ages 4-12
Maximum enrollment:
In this workshop, children along with their parents, will learn how to act aware, calm and confident; how to take charge and get help. In addition, children will learn how to set clear and appropriate boundaries, how to stop unwanted touching and teasing and how to protect themselves from name calling and hurtful words. This workshop will include physical self-defense and will begin with extensive practice in many other skills that can prevent, avoid, leave or de-escalate problems before they become physical. Our goal is to empower young children with the full range of skills they deserve in order to escape from emergency situations as quickly as possible.

WOMEN’S BASICS  (occasionally taught as Mixed Gender Basics)
Length: 20-25 hours (exact length depends on class size)
Fee: $595; $100 non-refundable deposit required to reserve spot in class. Pre-registration required. Payment plans available.  Basics graduates may re-take the class for $299.

This course offers instruction in physical, verbal and psychological self-defense techniques for dealing with a variety of self-defense situations including those which end up on the ground. The course is taught in five sessions of approximately five hours each and provides opportunity for structured group discussions in addition to verbal and physical practice and simulated attack scenarios with male instructors in padded gear.

TEEN INTRO TO IMPACT
Length: 5 hours
Fee: $135 pre-paid, $145 at the door; pre-registration and parent/guardian consent form required

: All teens age 13-19

This introductory workshop is geared specifically to teens. Students learn techniques for verbal de-escalation and boundary-setting, physical strategies for dealing with standing and ground confrontations, and practice these in simulated attack scenarios with a male instructor in padded gear. An emphasis is placed on addressing situations involving conflict with acquaintances, as this is the highest risk category for young women (occasionally taught as co-ed).

GIRLS INTRO TO IMPACT
Length: 3 hours
Fee: $79 pre-paid, $89 at the door; pre-registration and parent/guardian consent form required

Open to: Teen girls age 14-19. (Co-ed classes are occasionally offered, too.) 
This 11-hour course is taught in three sessions. Friday evening’s session focuses on the fundamentals of boundary-setting and assertiveness. This is followed by two weekend afternoon sessions that combine physical self-defense, including defending oneself from the ground, and additional verbal skills. Students practice responding to simulated attack scenarios with male instructors in padded gear. An emphasis is placed on addressing situations involving conflict with acquaintances, as this is the highest risk category for young men and women.

BEYOND BASICS 1: Intermediate Techniques
Length: 10 hours
Fee: $279 pre-paid, $289 at the door
Maximum enrollment: 16
Open to: Women and men graduates of Basics courses with permission of Instructor
Learn intermediate-level physical and verbal techniques, greater speed and more element of surprise, how to fight in low-vision circumstances, awareness of environmental impediments and use of the environment for weapons or cover.

Stick Defense
Length: 5 hours
Fee: $149 pre-paid, $159 at the door
Maximum enrollment: 16
Open to: All adult men and women
Verbal and physical techniques for use against sticks, canes, bats or any type of bludgeon.

BEYOND BASICS
Length: 20-24 hours, depending upon size of class

Material from the Basics class is reviewed and expanded upon. Learn additional techniques to add to your “toolbox,” how to fight when you cannot see (blindfolded, too dark, etc.), how to use environmental “impediments,” and physical strategies against armed or multiple assailants.

ADVANCED IMPACT
Length: 10 or 20 hour options
Fee: $299 for 10 hours, $549 for 20 hours
Maximum enrollment: 16
Open to: IMPACT grads of all Beyond Basics courses or equivalent.
Multiple Assailants and weapons; last resort tactics.

Custom Workshops
We develop customized workshops and presentations for groups, schools, community organizations, mother-daughter groups, and businesses. Workshops can be any length from 1.5 hours and up for one instructor, and 2 hours and up for workshops including scenario-based instruction with padded instructors, to allow sufficient time for instruction and practice.
